(Leavenworth exigua laciniata). Endangered. This flower is found only in Bullitt and Jefferson counties in Kentucky and is being severely threatened by residential development.

(Pedicularis furbishiae). Endangered. This perennial is only found along the Saint John River in Maine and New Brunswick, and has been threatened with habitat destruction—most famously by a hydroelectric dam project in 1974 that was deauthorized because it would have encroached on the plant’s habitat.

(Iris nelsonii). This is an iris that is endemic to Louisiana, growing only in one swamp in Vermillion Parrish on privately-owned land. It has recently been introduced in Palmetto Island State Park to allow it to be viewable to the public. It is threatened by development, agriculture, and increased salinity in the swamp due to more frequent hurricanes.

(erythranthe Michiganensis). Endangered. This plant is endemic to Michigan, occurring in only two areas within the state. It grows only in specific, wet, alkaline, spring fed habitats which are being lost to development, groundwater pumping, and storms.

(Schwalbea Americana). Endangered. This plant is found in sand plain grasslands, in Massachusetts historically on Cape Cod, and currently in only one county. It is considered to be globally imperiled and in danger of extinction, as it is fire-dependent and quickly shaded out by invasive species.

(Scutellaria saxatilis). Endangered in Maryland and nationally thought to be vulnerable to extinction. It is a perennial in the mint family that thrives best in dense rich woods and rocky areas. It is threatened by loss of the forest canopy, flooding, and invasive species.
